Music and art have always been the creative pursuits of mankind. Each culture has its unique style of expression through art and music. Not just a community or a culture, these are the unique ways of expression for individuals also. Whereas collectively they become a traditional style , at an individual level they afford a person the opportunity to articulate what language and other forms of expression fall far short of expressing.

Firstly, music and art play a significant role at the community level in developing a strong sense of identity among people belonging to a particular community. For instance, the handloom weavers of Varanasi are famous worldwide for their Banarasi silk saris. Their art has flourished over the centuries and now the same artwork makes them popular across the world. Here the art of making saris, heavily embroidered with elaborate patterns, is giving these artists a means of express Indian culture. Thus, artworks in any form make it possible for a community to gain popularity as well as a sense of uniqueness.

Secondly, at the individual level music and art have far reaching benefits, sometimes they have an affect on academic achievement as well. For example, a rise in confidence and creative thinking result from music education. These same attributes are necessary to perform well in other fields of life. A student of music develops skills such as observing and innovating through exploration. When these skills are applied to the field of science, it is possible to breakdown something complex into a simple form, and then invent a new thing out of that complex thing. Art and music creates a mental attitude which facilitates new inventions and improvisations in every field.
