Sample Answer ( Part 2)
I am a big fan of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma – a well known Santoor player and I also like the music of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia who plays flute.
Usually they give solo performances and whenever they release their music albums, those albums become instant hits and sell thousands of copies.
Occasionally this duo plays at charity events to raise funds for the philanthropic activities they do together.
Last year they performed together at Victoria Stadium in my city. Fortunately I managed to get two tickets for this concert.
I would say that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Playing their music video on a mobile phone at home is nothing compared to listening to their live performance.
Indian classical music abounds with many Ragas, but this performance was on the theme of movie songs.
Thus, it was a concert with a promise of beautiful instrumentals.
As my friend Ronald is also a classical music fan, it was indeed a memorable evening for us.
Indian movie songs, especially those songs of the late 70s , are very melodious . And classical music lends elegance to them.
After thoroughly enjoying that musical event, when we came back , we felt as if the music had refreshed our souls.
We wish we had taken some lessons in Classical music at our university where another musician named Pandit Jasraj was a faculty member.
It is better late than never, and some day , we are hopeful that we will learn to play a musical instrument.
Sample Answer ( Part 3)
Do you think traditional performances are important?
Believe it or not, traditional music is a science that has been developed over the course of hundreds of years.
If we talk about Classical music then I would like to say that there is nothing more expressive of human emotions than a piece of classical music.
Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop are different genres that make us ecstatic for a while, but then the effect subsides the next moment.
Whereas traditional performances are a soulful experience, it is a mark of a cultivated man who can enjoy traditional music.
What do you think is the difference between watching a live performance and watching it on TV?
Watching a live performance is a unique and exhilarating experience.
Watching a music video on TV doesn’t give us a sense of togetherness. That can only be felt by being a part of a crowd that is enjoying a live concert.
Apart from this, we get a chance to meet our favorite artist while we attend a live show. And there is also a possibility of meeting new people who are equally enthusiastic about music.
The only advantage that a TV show has over a live concert is the facility it affords us to watch the musical performance over and over again.
( or…
A TV show you can watch over and over again, unlike a live concert that you can enjoy only once )
How do you think to watching a performance or a stage play influences children?
Children’s brains are very receptive , and when they see a drama then it stretches their imagination.
They feel motivated to take part in such activities when they see that the audience around them applauds the performance on stage.
And when children themselves become a member of a theater group, even at an early age, they start developing team spirit and become more creative.
Also research demonstrates that children exposed to arts and drama are more likely to grow up as empathetic adults.
