Sample Answer

These days our life has become too much dependent upon gadgets. It’s impossible to think about our life without these gadgets.

But, this is the case with everyone now.

There are some things that are more important than these gadgets. And one can still make do without gadgets, but these things are quite essential to their existence.

For instance, a pianist won’t be able to survive if his piano is taken away from him. Same way a painter won’t survive if his paintbrushes are not with him.

So, this absolute dependence on different things varies from person to person.

I am a banker, and my profession requires me to be punctual. At the same time I must dress up in a way that I can make a positive impact on my clients through my personality.

For this reason, our bank management insists that we all employees, down to the level of peon, should wear a watch , and those who come to the bank without wearing a watch will risk Rs.500 in fines

At first, this arbitrary decision looked quite absurd. We all have mobile phone, and why to wear a watch when we can use our phones to keep the time.

But, then we realized that the decision was quite right.

When we wear a wristwatch , we become more punctual. There is enough scientific data to prove this, but I can say from experience that it is absolutely correct.

Wearing a watch made all the employees at my bank come on time. And we noticed that after a month, our sales targets were being achieved very easily.

Also, it has become an integral part of my personality. Whenever I have to go out, I don’t forget to wear a watch.

I have made it a rule that on my birthday, I will buy at least one watch every year.

Today, if I don’t wear  a watch, then I don’t feel good. It feels as if I have lost the sense of time.

As a professional banker, I am obliged to finish my tasks on schedule, and my watch helps me to do that.

My collection of watches is the envy of my colleagues. Often they ask me to give them a watch from my collection on special occasions like conferences, birthdays , etc.

But I humbly decline their requests. I know their carefree ways of using the watches. And I can’t risk the damage to my watches by giving them to these careless people.

It has taken me years to acquire this collection, and I can’t afford to lose it.

Part 3

Why are children attracted to new things? (such as electronics?)

To understand this, we must think like the way children think.

For us, I mean adults, things lose their charm instantly, and we are rarely amused by novelty.

Whereas, children have a sense of wonder in their eyes. They like electronic gadgets as there are numerous possibilities that children can see in those gadgets.

For us, a smart watch is just another watch that tells time. But, children consider it as a prized possession. A gadget that can facilitate many things with a simple touch on its screen.

Why do some grown-ups hate to throw out old things? (such as clothes?)

These things have special memories attached to them.

Old things make them nostalgic. And for them, these objects establish the direct connection between them and their beautiful past.

Therefore they are reluctant to part with such old objects.

Is the way people buy things affected? How?

Yes, it is hugely affected. I would say it is revolutionized.

With the advent of smart phones and high-speed internet, people tend to do online shopping.

Previously window shopping was a favorite pastime . Nowadays , it is ‘windows-shopping’ , that is all the rage

What do you think influences people to buy new things?

It differs from person to person. But, this is related to some psychological reasons.

Social media marketing and other advertisement campaigns have created some false notions of buying more and more things.

People are buying things that they actually don’t need. This is because they are attracted by glossy advertisements on different platforms.
