Speaking Test Part 3

What are the advantages of strong family relationships?

There are innumerable advantages of having strong family ties. In troubled times your family is the ultimate refuge for you. When you are sad you need a shoulder to lean on, and what better than to have an elder brother could be there with you in happiness and sorrows alike.

How many generations are usually living under one roof in your country?

Indian families are usually joint families and therefore it is not uncommon to see 3 generations living under one roof in my country. Although scenario has changed and older generation prefers to live in their ancestral homes while younger generation migrates towards big cities where it is quite challenging for the whole family to live together under one roof.

What are the benefits, and drawbacks of a family of several generations living together?

The warmth of a big family is a boon in its own way. At the same time it is next to impossible thing to have your private space. Happy families are all alike but every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. When there is  discord between family members and when they can’t get along with each other, it is better to live separately rather than living under one roof.

Do parents have equal responsibilities in taking care of their children ?

Yes, it should be like that. But mothers bear this responsibility more than fathers do. For a mother this word “responsibility” does not exist in her dictionary , she takes care of her children out of pure maternal love only.

When taking care of a baby (or a young child), what do you think are the differences between a father and a mother?

The answer lies in the way they regard this thing. For a father, more often than not, it is a responsibility and he tries his best to carry out his duty toward his child. While a mother always puts love before duty. And therefore whatever she does for taking care of a baby , it is the expression of motherly love only. And things done with love are always superior to the ones which have been carried out as a responsibility.
