IELTS Writing Task 2 (Essay)
Artist need a certain amount of freedom to develop their creativity. Some people think that artist should have total freedom to express any thoughts and ideas.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Intro (Sample Answer):
Artists and their artworks reflect the ideas and aspirations of the generation they belong to. Given freedom to express their thoughts in a creative way, artists ultimately help flourish the artistic tradition. It is a popular belief that artists and creative people should be encouraged to express themselves fully without any restrictions from any authority. I completely agree with this and this essay will show why it is important to encourage artistic freedom.
Agree
– Art is other name of expressing emotions, it’s a medium of expression.
– unwise to put restrictions on the expression of ideas, creativity, and the aspirations of people
– there is a thin line between obscenity and the expression of decent creativity.
(…or…Sometimes it is difficult to make distinction between obscenity and the expression of decent creativity) But, that should be decided by the conscience of the artist, not the coercion of the government
Dictatorial regimes want people to conform to their views. They try their best to curtail all the mediums of expression that allow citizens to express their views.
And we can see the grave consequences when artists are persecuted for their creative views. They flee their native countries and take refuge in democratic countries. With them they carry their ideas to these countries
with no fertile ground for creative imagination, a country becomes a barren place. Life becomes monotonous and state-control over art becomes oppressive for ordinary citizens.
– art can express various social issues and promote awareness against corrupt practices in the society. This strengthens the democracy
IELTS Writing Task 2 (Essay)
Rich countries are getting richer while poor countries are getting poorer.
What is the cause of this? What could be done to solve this problem?
Intro (Sample Answer)
Developed countries are enjoying a constant increase in their per capita incomes while more and more people in underdeveloped countries are being pushed below poverty line. It would be difficult to single out one reason for this thing, yet lack of democratic institutions and poor infrastructure in healthcare and education are widely believed to be the major causes behind this. This essay will discuss some major causes as well as remedial steps to solve this issue.
Causes
In poor countries
– lack of democratic institutions that can keep corrupt practices by government officials in check
resources for public welfare are pocketed by politicians who siphon it off to offshore companies
– poor transport infrastructure and healthcare facilities cause a fall in the foreign investment
this leads to unemployment and this eventually leads to low per capita income.
Rich countries
– people flee the underdeveloped countries and migrate to the developed countries in search of greener pastures
Solutions
– strengthening the democracy is the panacea – all the economists suggest this
– strict laws should be enacted against corrupt practices that curb the menace of stealing government resources
– economically poor countries can take loans from institutions like International Monetary Fund and spend it on developing infrastructure
